About Quoins Organic Vineyard

In 2002, Alan Chubb purchased a three-acre corner of a field near the historic town of Bradford on Avon, where he had settled with his young family. With a career spent advising others worldwide on growing tree crops like coffee and oranges, Alan was eager to put his expertise into practise. Inspired by the burgeoning English wine renaissance and a commitment to organic methods, he founded Quoins Organic Vineyard.

Alan’s vision was clear: to produce high-quality wines that balanced profitability with sustainability. This was no hobby; it was a family venture, where nature, community, and organic principles thrived. That winter, he planted three grape varieties: Orion and Rondo—pioneering, disease-resistant German hybrids—and the traditional French/German Madeleine Angevine. Two acres were dedicated to vines, while his wife, Jane Laurie, planted fruit and nut trees and established a small woodland copse along the edges.

Registered with the Soil Association, Quoins celebrated its first harvest in 2005. The vineyard has since flourished, earning awards at UK Vineyards Association and Decanter tastings. In 2015, it achieved Demeter biodynamic certification. Production was entrusted to Sedlescombe Vineyard in 2013, introducing a rosé to complement the range of single-variety wines.

Once a muddy field, the vineyard now teems with wildlife, from summer larks to autumn spindle berries, embodying the harmony of organic agriculture. Alan continues to offer consultancy on local food and organic vineyard establishment, sharing his passion and expertise.
