Langhorne Creek is a historic wine region in South Australia, located about 70 km southeast of Adelaide in the Fleurieu wine zone.
Red varieties dominate plantings, especially Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, which together account for around 70 % of the vineyard area. Other notable varieties include Merlot, Chardonnay, Malbec, and Verdelho. Wines from Langhorne Creek tend toward bold, fruit-driven styles with soft tannins, often showing dark berry, spice, mint, or chocolate notes in reds.
The region sits on fertile floodplain soils, primarily deep alluvial sandy loams with patches of self-mulching clay, nourished historically by periodic flooding from the Bremer and Angas rivers. Its climate is moderated by cooling southerly breezes from Lake Alexandrina and the Southern Ocean, which help stabilise daytime temperatures and retain acidity in grapes.
