The Cape Mentelle journey is a true labour of love, born from humble beginnings in 1970 with just sixteen hectares of vines. Fast forward to today, and this iconic winery has carefully crafted each blend to showcase the unique characteristics of its terroir, resulting in wines that are both complex and approachable.
This wine is a crafted blend of flavours and textures, showcasing the best of Margaret River Shiraz. This 16 Hectares Shiraz is a medium-bodied delight, with a rich array of dark fruit flavours, including red cherry, blackberry, and spiced plum. These flavours are beautifully complemented by layers of cedar and warm spice, adding depth and complexity to the wine. With its finely textured tannins and refreshing acidity, this wine is both elegant and refined. The gravelly soils of the Wallcliffe vineyard have imparted a subtle minerality, while the wild-yeast fermentation has added a touch of nuance. Josef Chromy is one of Tasmania's most famous influential wine figures, having owned and developed some of the state's most prominent wineries, including Rochecombe (now Bay Of Fires), Jansz, Tamar Ridge and Heemskerk vineyards. In 2007 he established the winery that would bear his name, which quickly became one of Tasmania's leading wine producers.
A vibrant nose of zesty lemon, lime, and kaffir lime leaves, complemented by subtle hints of roasted fennel and bay leaves. On the palate, it’s juicy and refreshing, with lively acidity and a fresh, vibrant character. The wine offers excellent length and focus, with a pleasant texture and a hint of chalky minerality, adding depth and intrigue.
