The Verhaeghe family have been making wine in the Lot since the 1950s. Today it is Pascal and Jean-Marc in charge of the domaine, which is certified organic. They own three parcels of vineyards, the largest of which is 12.5 acres with stony calcareous clay which is called `Tran`, which plays an important role retaining heat and moisture. Drawing on his winemaking experience from California to Burgundy.

A deep, dark red hue sets the stage for a wine with an intense yet elegant blackcurrant, plum and cedar aromas. On the palate, it is wonderfully smooth and round, delivering vibrant dark fruit flavours with exceptional intensity combining with spice and oak.

During the early years, Bodegas Lustau operated as an ‘Almacenista’. The Lustau family began bottling their own sherries and exporting by 1950. In the 1980s they expanded their range and introduced the Almacenista range concept of buying and maturing casks from small bodegas to share excellent quality names and styles with enthusiasts around the world. Bodegas Lustau is considered a world-class benchmark for top-quality wines.

This pale golden-hued vermouth is a blend of carefully selected white wines, fortified with a touch of brandy and infused with a secret blend of botanicals. The nose is immediately greeted with intense aromas of dried herbs, citrus peel, and a hint of saline minerality. On the palate, the wine reveals a perfect balance between sweetness and acidity, with flavours of green apple, fennel, and a touch of bitter almond. Fermented in a mixture of stainless steel and oak at cool temperatures using selected Burgundy yeast strains to enhance complexity, stone fruit, floral characters and minerality. Post-fermentation there was full malolactic fermentation and extended fine lees ageing with some bâtonnage to accentuate the natural weight.

A late dry spell in 2021 allowed us to hang the fruit for as long as possible to ensure we attained peak physiological ripeness for our house style. The Chardonnay 2021 is a blend of aromatic and non-aromatic chardonnay fruit sourced from a collection of growers in Essex where the microclimate and soil allow the grapes to achieve excellent ripeness, harvested between 31st October and 7th November 2021.
