Lyme Bay Chardonnay 2021 (6 Bottles) Axminster, Devon, England

Fermented in a mixture of stainless steel and oak at cool temperatures using selected Burgundy yeast strains to enhance complexity, stone fruit, floral characters and minerality. Post-fermentation there was full malolactic fermentation and extended fine lees ageing with some bâtonnage to accentuate the natural weight.
A late dry spell in 2021 allowed us to hang the fruit for as long as possible to ensure we attained peak physiological ripeness for our house style. The Chardonnay 2021 is a blend of aromatic and non-aromatic chardonnay fruit sourced from a collection of growers in Essex where the microclimate and soil allow the grapes to achieve excellent ripeness, harvested between 31st October and 7th November 2021.

The Rondo is whole bunch pressed and fermented in Stainless Steel tanks to preserve the rich berry fruits. The Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are whole bunch pressed and aged in French oak 225L barrels to add smooth structure and body. There are aromas of Citrus, Mulberry, blackcurrants and strawberries coupled with delicious summer fruit freshness on the palate. Made entirely from our own grown Pinot varieties, this wine is a mix of 45% Pinot Noir (mix of clones), 40% Pinot Noir Precoce and 15% Pinot Meunier. With our warm summer of 2023 the result is an intoxicating aroma of red summer fruit produce.
On the mouth the first taste is distinctly of ripe raspberries and loganberries followed by pomegranate and perhaps some red currant. The wine leaves a smooth and rounded finish. This is well balanced and a delight to drink on a summer’s afternoon – with or without food!

Vibrant with notes of plum and black cherry, warming toast and spice. The palate is rich with textured silky tannins and flavours of ripe damson and hints of rosemary. Persistence of hedgerow fruit and crunchy acidity gives a complete and rounded finish.
A bold and ripe expression of Pinot Noir from the stellar vintage of 2022. Made from fruit harvested from Burgundian and German clones of Pinot Noir at Flint Vineyard and from Martin's Lane in the Crouch Valley, Essex.
Long standing followers of Flint will know that our popular red, Pinot Noir Précoce is made from an eagerly ripening ‘clone’ of Pinot Noir, but we also planted some special Burgundian ‘clones’ of Pinot Noir on our Brown’s vineyard site.
The Pinot Noir grapes on our own site, some of the oldest vines at Flint, were planted in 2016, this is the first time we’ve picked these grapes for making red wine.
