A fresh wine, with apricots and almonds on the nose followed by tropical fruits and greengages on the palate. It is the perfect English wine for summer.

Kerner (a relative of Riesling) is the pride and joy of Astley Vineyard. Produced from vines planted in 1971, Old Vine Kerner is our flagship wine intended for sophisticated dinners, or sharing with appreciative friends.
2022 produced some of the ripest Kerner we have ever experienced - harvested at over 12.5% abv. The result is an astoundingly aromatic and intense wine.
Made of: 100% Kerner (96% from a single tank)
Tastes/Aromas of: Tangerine, Fresh apricot, Orange blossom, Ginger
Sweetness: Dry
Acidity: Medium +
2022 was very kind to our Kerner. Harvested at record sugar levels, this rich & aromatic expression of Kerner is both joyous and fascinatingly complex. The 7 month fermentation, and an extra month on lees created a luxuriously textured wine that somehow managed to not overpower the primary fruit. Enjoy on its own, or alongside rich north European cuisine (roast pork, mushrooms).

The Cape Mentelle journey is a true labour of love, born from humble beginnings in 1970 with just sixteen hectares of vines. Fast forward to today, and this iconic winery has carefully crafted each blend to showcase the unique characteristics of its terroir, resulting in wines that are both complex and approachable.
This wine is a vibrant and seductive blend of flavours, with a nose that's bursting with juicy yellow peaches, sweet melon, and citrus zest, all entwined with delicate hints of frangipani and honeysuckle. On the palate, the wine is rich and indulgent, with flavours of rock melon, pistachio, and lemon curd that are perfectly balanced by a zesty acidity. Only a few English Sauvignon Blancs pass muster with me, and Missing Gate has shot into contention with its delightful, bright, and refreshing character. While the nose and palate are open and citrusy, the superb mid-palate depth and raspy, chalky finish remind me of top-flight Menetou-Salon! The extra dimension of fruit, adding gravitas to the core, is remarkable, and this comes from 80% of the wine being fermented in neutral 500L barrels with 20% going through malolactic fermentation and further lees ageing. These considered techniques add invaluable texture, making this wine complete. It is a glimpse of the future for this grape variety in the UK.
