Under the leadership of Chief Winemaker Jeremy McKenzie, the winery continues to build its reputation for award winning Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir but is also producing world class Chardonnay. The palate reveals rich flavours, with the essence of black cherry, and dried herbs weaving together seamlessly. Sinewy tannins, expertly integrated French oak, and a thoughtful blending process result in a wine with a prolonged and seductive finish. Davenport Diamond Fields Pinot Noir Early 2022 (6 Bottles) Rotherfield, East Sussex, England
UK MAINLAND SHIPPING INCLUDED
English organic Pinot Noir, grown on a south facing sandy clay soil site. The grapes are 50% destemmed (without cruching the berries) and fermented with natural yeast for a 10 days before pressing. Fermenting juice from the press is moved straight into oak barrels (barrels are between 5 and 20 years old) where it completes fermentation. The wine is then matured in old oak barriques for 9 months before bottling. We bottle without filtration and this wine may have a slight sediment in the bottle.
2022 vintage was another good vintage for Diamiond Fields, producing only 2000 bottles. The aromas of raspberry, plum and cherry and a pale red colour mark this lighter style of Pinot Noir. The alcohol level is only 11% making a very fresh fruit driven wine, perfect for a summer day. There is a backbone of tannic structure behind the fruit which will help the wine to mature over the next year or two.
Pinot Noir Early is a natural mutation of Pinot Noir that ripens about a week or two earlier than most Pinot Noir clones. It is naturally low yielding and dificult to grow in the UK.

"Made at contract winery Itasca by Ben Smith, who was responsible for making my highest scoring English wine of all time (2018 Oxney Chardonnay), I have no problem declaring that this is the UK’s finest Pinot Blanc to date.
The fruit comes from the Missing Gate Vineyard in Essex, where it was hand-picked and whole bunch pressed into third fill Burgundy barrels. I was lucky enough to taste a bottle late last year, and it is as lively and energetic as any white wine you will taste.
A low sulphur regime and minimal fining have left the beautiful fruit to romance your senses. This is a truly brilliant wine with sensational depth, complexity and length. It is not slippery and smooth like an Alsatian PB, but grainy, combative and textural like an epic Chablis. It is nothing short of stunning, and it is certainly the epitome of brave winemaking."
