Tamar Valley Double White – Still White Wine 2023 (6 Bottles) Bere Alston, Devon, England

Made from a blend of Madeleine Angevine and Bacchus grapes, grown in the Tamar Valley. The wine has hints of blossom, sherbet and elderflower, a floral and citrus finish with baked apple on the nose. This wine won a BRONZE at the Wine GB West awards in December 2024.
The Tamar Valley was famous for its market gardens and early flowering blooms, especially daffodils. The ‘double white’ was popular for its intense perfume and its creamy white petals.

This new release is made from grapes from the excellent 2019 and 2020 vintages. Made from a blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir, secondary fermentation in bottle followed by 24 months gaining complexity on lees. The wine therefore benefits from some lovely bottle age and is ready to be enjoyed now. 12% ABV.

The traditional ripe Blanc de Noir flavour of red apple and blackcurrant combine with linear citrus and oyster shell characteristics noticeable in all of Balfour’s vintage wines. The result is a wine of wonderful tension, vibrancy, and complexity.

This delicate drink is perfect for sunny afternoon sipping. Made with wild estate Elderflower, lemon and oranges and in the traditional method, it is matured on the lees for 10 months. It is crisp, fresh and very floral and is the perfect picnic accompaniment.
This wine is part of our new Don't Feed The Ponies range of more experimental wines, a reference to a campaign on Dartmoor National Park to discourage visitors from feeding the wild horses that roam there. The source of the River Dart begins way up in the heart of the moors, and it's the river that influences how our grapes grow. For every bottle purchased from this range, we'll donate 25p to the Dartmoor Preservation Association to preserve the natural habitat.

Made from our very best parcels of Bacchus grapes, a unique expression of Bacchus from some of our oldest vines. The Orpheus is a wine of great finesse, a limited range only made in selected years. The 2023 vintage is a well structured, elegant, dry white wine. On the nose you find undertones of gooseberry, elderflower and pink grapefruit. The skin fermented method applied to such aromatic varietals results in a wine with super powerful aromas of grapefruit, grass and tropical fruit. The palate is dry and crisp with soft tannins and a long citrussy finish. A very food friendly wine!
Winemaker's Notes: Not your typical white wine, a wine for the lovers of 'orange wines'. Small parcels of very ripe and rare (in England) Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat grapes were fermented on skins in the same way as you would a red wine for 7 days before being pressed. Only 500 bottles produced.
