An off-dry English sparkling wine with refined fruit character. It has a pale golden hue with a steady stream of tiny bubbles.
Floral aromas of almond blossom and honeysuckle dance on the nose, with fragrant stone fruits including yellow nectarine and quince. It has the scent of summer meadows alongside attractive aromas of freshly baked shortbread and sweet brioche. The palate is off-dry with honeyed fruit, sweet apple compote and stewed medlar. It has a wonderful creamy mousse and a silky texture as smooth as panna cotta.
There are hints of frangipane and bakewell tart with a tasty layer of sweet almond paste running through it. It has balancing acidity to counteract the sweetness so the result is exquisitely off-dry with a lingering finish.
Perfect for celebrations such as christenings or a baby shower, or simply enjoy it with afternoon tea. Serve well-chilled in a flute alongside sweet canapés such as mini strawberry short-cake or individual fruit tarts. Also good with creamy fruit desserts such as summer trifle or panna cotta with a red berry coulis. Domaine Jean Foillard wines enjoy cult-like status. Early on, Jean began to follow the teachings of Jules Chauvet, a traditionalist who defied everything that the more commercial brands were touting in the region. Jean and three other local vignerons, Marcel Lapierre, Jean-Paul Thévenet, and Guy Breton, soon joined in on the movement. The wines are a true and natural expression of Morgon with access to the very best vineyards in one of the most renowned areas of the appellation, the ‘Côtes du Py’, and 60-year-old vines, Jean`s wines are full of life and character and show incredible depth and purity.
The Morgon Cuvee Classique is ruby red with a robust nose of complex red and black fruit aroma, as well as earthy notes. On the palate, it is similarly layered. sour cherry, black plum, dried flower and leather, with great depth and a lengthy finish. This is a lighter style of wine that nevertheless offers wonderful complexity and depth.
