Owned by the Deniau family, Domaine des Vaublins has been a family winery for several generations. Since 2020 the Domaine is in the hands of the current generation Nicolas and Alexandrine, and together with Cedric Allion they are making some excellent wines under his watchful eye. Their 16 hectares of vines are located on the clay and limestone hillsides on the banks of the river Cher.
This Crémant de Loire is a beautiful pale gold colour with hints of green, creating a delicate and luminous appearance. It has a gentle effervescence that lingers gracefully. The aroma is a delightful blend of fruity notes, complemented by subtle hints of white flowers like honeysuckle and acacia. Only a few English Sauvignon Blancs pass muster with me, and Missing Gate has shot into contention with its delightful, bright, and refreshing character. While the nose and palate are open and citrusy, the superb mid-palate depth and raspy, chalky finish remind me of top-flight Menetou-Salon! The extra dimension of fruit, adding gravitas to the core, is remarkable, and this comes from 80% of the wine being fermented in neutral 500L barrels with 20% going through malolactic fermentation and further lees ageing. These considered techniques add invaluable texture, making this wine complete. It is a glimpse of the future for this grape variety in the UK.

This rare creation is Eglantine’s first red wine for a decade! Made from the grapes of a small quantity of red grape vines. Regent and Rondo grape varieties have a short growing season, allowing them to ripen well in the Nottinghamshire climate. This wine is a blend across multiple vintages: 2017 through to 2022. The juice began it’s fermentation on the skins, giving it a deep red colour and rich tannins.

An exquisitely elegant sparkling rosé wine showing great finesse.
It has a delicate salmon-pink hue with tiny bubbles. Enticing aromas of wild strawberries and white peach mingle with a hint of rosehip. There are subtle autolytic notes of vanilla-scented brioche and scones with cream.
The mousse is soft and creamy with beautifully integrated bubbles. On the palate, fresh summer berries including cranberry and redcurrant meet stone fruits, nectarine and wild apricot. It has layers of complexity with citrus acidity and delicate minerality. The mouthfeel is excellent and it shows exceptional balance, lingering well after the last drop.
