A bit of an ice-queen Chardonnay. An elegant, aloof wine that feels as if it’s white linen ironed to a blade. A whisper of oak-spice trapped in steel. It’s a lemon-etched, stone-edged, coiled-up, taut slip of a wine. Lime, salt and spice. Mouth-watering.
About Missing Gate Vineyard
Nestled in the renowned Crouch Valley, Missing Gate Vineyard represents three generations of farming heritage combined with a forward-thinking vision for English winemaking. This family-run venture, established in 2018, leverages a background in farming and food-technology to produce exceptional still English wines, balancing uncompromising quality with sustainable practises.
From the outset, the family adopted a long-term approach, experimenting with a variety of climate and disease-resistant grape varietals to find the perfect match for the vineyard’s clay-based terroir. This meticulous selection process has resulted in vines that thrive in the unique conditions of the ‘salt-marsh stretch of Essex.’ Drawing on expertise in food processing technologies, Missing Gate has embraced innovative green solutions, optimising grape yields and elevating wine quality while minimising environmental impact.
The vineyard’s origins lie in the family’s deep connection to the land and a shared passion for winemaking. Traditional arable fields have given way to vibrant vines, transforming the farm into a hub of viticulture excellence. Encouraged by their initial success, the family continues to expand the vineyard and refine their offerings, contributing to the growing reputation of the ‘Essex Riviera’ as a premier region for still English wines.
Proudly joining the ranks of neighbouring vineyards, Missing Gate Vineyard embodies a blend of tradition and innovation, delivering wines that reflect the dedication and spirit of a family united by a love for their craft.

This wine is a blend of Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir from the 2023 vintage and has been crafted to create a light delicate, fresh but aromatic white blend that celebrates the very best of the North Downs.
The Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir were whole bunch pressed with the Chardonnay formed purely from the cuvee fraction of the whole bunch press. The Pinot Gris was crushed and destemmed with a 2-hour soak. There was an addition of tea leaf tannins to the tank fermented wine to reduce the amount of added sulphites. 24% of the Chardonnay was fermented and aged in barrel for six months and 10% of the Chardonnay came from our Chardonnay ‘solera’ reserve tank which we started in 2015

The 2022 was one of those glorious wine grape growing years. Spring started out mild and frost free. Summer brought so much sun along with the heat and drought, the clay soils loved it! Autumn was kind enough to offer a bountiful harvest and perfect ripeness for our still wines.
