Greyfriars Vineyard Yolande 2023 (6 Bottles) Puttenham, Surrey, England
£90.00
UK MAINLAND DELIVERY INCLUDED
This wine is a blend of Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir from the 2023 vintage and has been crafted to create a light delicate, fresh but aromatic white blend that celebrates the very best of the North Downs.
The Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir were whole bunch pressed with the Chardonnay formed purely from the cuvee fraction of the whole bunch press. The Pinot Gris was crushed and destemmed with a 2-hour soak. There was an addition of tea leaf tannins to the tank fermented wine to reduce the amount of added sulphites. 24% of the Chardonnay was fermented and aged in barrel for six months and 10% of the Chardonnay came from our Chardonnay ‘solera’ reserve tank which we started in 2015
This is the fourth in a series of limited-edition wines celebrating a chapter in our local history and the unsung heroines of the SOE in World War II who trained at nearby Wanborough Manor.
Yolande Beekman flew to NE France as a radio operator in September 1943. Unfortunately in January 1944 her transmissions were detected and she was captured and tragically executed at Dachau in September 1944.

About Greyfriars Vineyard
Our vineyards are predominantly planted with the three classic Champagne varieties; Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. However, we also have small plots of Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Blanc. Our state-of-the-art tasting room was built over lockdown and opened in 2021. Passion throughout the winemaking and vineyard teams has led to a number of our wines gaining critical acclaim, winning a number of prizes in international competitions including the Decanter World Wine Awards.
The current Greyfriars Vineyard was originally set up in 1989 and was one of the first in England to plant the traditional Champagne grape varieties (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier). 30 years later, in 2011, Mike and Hilary Wagstaff took over with the aim of expanding the vineyard to its current size of 40 acres and to produce stunning English Sparkling Wine, building a state-of-the-art winery complete with an underground chalk cave cellar to accommodate this growth.
Our aim is not just to produce a Champagne ‘copy’ but rather to create a small range of great sparkling wines which reflects the unique geology, soil conditions, climate and heritage of the wonderful landscape of the Surrey North Downs. In addition, we are looking to take advantage of the most modern grape growing and winemaking technology, planning some exciting trials and experiments in both the vineyard and the winery over the next few years. When people ask me I never admit to having a favourite wine….it would be like having a favourite child – unthinkable!
However, I’m very close to admitting that this could be my favourite sparkling wine that we’ve released so far. I always love the gorgeous bronzed-gold colour of Blanc de Noirs wines coupled with their depth of flavour…..but what totally captivates me about this wine is the mouthfeel and balance.
It has the smoothest texture, the most delicious creaminess and a captivating balance of freshness and fruit. This is a fantastic example of the style that can be created with the right wine and patience! We’ve waited 5 long years for this wine to gently mature and I think it was worth it.
Albourne Estate Multi-Vintage Sparkling (6 Bottles) Albourne, West Sussex, England
UK MAINLAND SHIPPING INCLUDED
As its name suggests this wine is made of selected base wines from multiple vintages to produce an approachable and immediately enjoyable style. Others call this style ‘non-vintage’ – we just prefer the name ‘multi-vintage’! The blend of this wine will vary slightly each year in order to maintain a consistent style, but it will typically be a combination of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir or Pinot Meunier and will undergo 3 years on-lees ageing.
Generous and soft on the palate, this wine is open and expressive, exhibiting delightful panettone-like aromas of sweet baked bread, dried apricots, nuts and candied citrus peels.
Black Chalk Classic Sparkling White 2021 (6 Bottles) Andover, Hampshire, England
UK MAINLAND SHIPPING INCLUDED
A sophisticated blend of 50% Chardonnay, 38% Pinot Noir, and 12% Pinot Meunier, this wine embodies elegance and precision. The Chardonnay-led profile delivers a vibrant fruit focus, while a touch of malolactic fermentation adds a layer of richness and texture, perfectly balanced by the wine’s hallmark freshness.
On the palate, expect a textured and full-bodied experience, supported by bright acidity (8.5g/l) and subtle sweetness (5.4g/l residual sugar). The wine is aged for a minimum of 22 months on lees, enhancing complexity, with an additional 6 months on cork post-disgorgement to ensure perfect integration.
A versatile choice for any occasion. Enjoy as an aperitif with crisps and canapés, or elevate everyday dining by pairing with fried chicken. For a more refined match, complement its freshness and texture with shellfish such as oysters, crab, or prawns.
