On the back of the hot summer of 2022, we left a further 689 vines of Solaris to ripen further. 28 days after harvesting our main Solaris crop, the berries turned a wonderful golden brown and started to dehydrate on the vine.
Packed full of banana & toffee flavours, lifted with some floral notes and held together with a refreshing acidity. This dessert wine pairs perfectly with some Shropshire Blue cheese.

Melbury Vale Sparkling Wine Grace (6 Bottles) Shaftesbury, Dorset, England

A single variety, single vineyard wine that is produced in very limited quantities. On site at Melbury Vale Vineyard we have 500 established Seyval Blanc vines. Seyval blanc as a grape is ideal for the Dorset climate in that it is low maintenance and ripens beautifully. Come harvest, the bunches of grapes are large and have sugar levels perfectly aligned for producing traditional method sparkling wine. This wine is a pale golden color with fine bubbles typical of a high quality English sparkling wine. On the nose there are aromas of fresh citrus and ripe pear, and on the palate there are bright notes of green apple, elderflower, and meyer lemon.

Isabel Estate is one of the original Marlborough vineyards with some of the oldest vines in the region on original rootstock. Throughout the 1980s the couple planted key noble varietals and began to deliver fruit of exceptional quality, in high demand from premium and internationally renowned wine producers. Under the leadership of Chief Winemaker Jeremy McKenzie, the winery continues to build its reputation for award winning Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir but is also producing world class Chardonnay. Recognised and awarded, the estate has won. All fruit is estate grown from the 54 hectares of vines, most of which are now organic.
This Pinot Noir is a mesmerising ruby-red hue sets the stage for an aromatic experience that unfolds with a symphony of wild flowers, fragrant violets, and lively red cherry notes. The palate reveals rich flavours, with the essence of black cherry, and dried herbs weaving together seamlessly. Sinewy tannins, expertly integrated French oak, and a thoughtful blending process result in a wine with a prolonged and seductive finish. While alluring in its youthful vibrancy, the wine possesses the potential to evolve into a hidden gem with age, acquiring additional layers of complexity over time.

Ortega is an early ripening variety for the UK, which allows us to leave the grapes hanging on the vine as long as possible to achieve the optimum balance of fruit and acid. Only a few English Sauvignon Blancs pass muster with me, and Missing Gate has shot into contention with its delightful, bright, and refreshing character. While the nose and palate are open and citrusy, the superb mid-palate depth and raspy, chalky finish remind me of top-flight Menetou-Salon! The extra dimension of fruit, adding gravitas to the core, is remarkable, and this comes from 80% of the wine being fermented in neutral 500L barrels with 20% going through malolactic fermentation and further lees ageing. These considered techniques add invaluable texture, making this wine complete. It is a glimpse of the future for this grape variety in the UK.
