Ortega is a lesser-known grape variety in the UK, but gaining in popularity among those who have ‘’discovered” it! Named after Spanish philosopher, Jose Ortega y Gaffet, Ortega is a cross between Muller-Thurgau and Siegerrebe grapes.

Displaying a delicate, pale lemon hue, this complex sparkling wine has honeyed beeswax and subtle baked apple aromas. The palate is a harmonious blend of richer and fresh fruit, with creamy apple and pear flavours and a delicate hint of vanilla on the finish from the well integrated oak ageing.
While this would serve as a wonderful aperitif, it would go down equally well with creamy, crème fraîche chicken pasta with pancetta; or with a Normandy style Moules with Cider, or lighter roast dishes such as pork tenderloin with fennel.

There are so few 'still' Chardonnays in the UK for which I use the term 'sophisticated'. I have no doubt they will come, but Goldenford is already here, and it is an absolute gem. Silky, linear, resonant and singular, this thrilling wine blows my mind at only £18! The Cape Mentelle journey is a true labour of love, born from humble beginnings in 1970 with just sixteen hectares of vines. Fast forward to today, and this iconic winery has carefully crafted each blend to showcase the unique characteristics of its terroir, resulting in wines that are both complex and approachable.
This wine is a symphony of citrus and tropical flavours, bursting with energy and vibrancy. The nose is a riot of yellow grapefruit pith, green mango, and crushed lime leaf. On the palate, the flavours explode in a juicy mix of green melon, passionfruit, and guava, perfectly balanced by a succulent citrus acidity that leaves you wanting more. A vibrant English sparkling wine with bright citrus notes and crisp freshness. It has a medium lemon colour and fine delicate bubbles. Attractive aromas of acacia blossom and lemon peel mingle with orchard fruits, including green apple and ripe pear plus mild brioche and subtle notes of pastry. On the palate it is deliciously crisp and dry with zest acidity and a lively mousse. Citrus flavours of lemon and yuzu marry greengage and mirabelle plum alongside exotic hints of kumquat and cashew nut. It shows a wonderful purity and saline minerality with a tangy finish.
Serve this dry, sparkling wine well-chilled in a flute as an aperitif. Pair it with canapés including smoked salmon blinis or fish goujons. Enjoy it with Japanese sushi amnd sashimi. Also good with Scandinavian-inspired dishes such as pickled herring or soused mackerel or mild fusion flavours such as yuzu and sea bass ceviche, or thai-style mussels.

The grapes were hand picked and whole bunch pressed. Fermented and aged in staineless steel tanks before bottling. Put through malolactic fermentation.
This exceptional value for money English Sparkling Wine won gold at the recent WineGB 2023 Awards. Blending together the three traditional "Champagne" varieties, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, from 2014, 2015 and 2016 vintages, our NV Sparkling Cuvée was left to age in bottle for two years on its lees.
