This third release of our “SB” is a refreshing sparkling wine with deliciously English Sauvignon Blanc aromas of nettle, gooseberry & grass, heightened by flavours on the palate that deliver a savoury note. Recommended by Saturday Kitchen’s Olly Smith and a strong pedigree: The 2010 vintage won a Decanter World Wine Award Gold medal, the UKVA Trophy for the best Sparkling Rose in England and was awarded first place in the MWs tasting of 90 English Sparkling wines in 2012. Judges included Jancis Robinson, Stephen Spurrier, Stephen Skelton, Susie Barry, Waitrose and M&S: 'Strawberry and raspberry nose, lovely acid backbone well balanced with the dosage'.
The 2008 and 2009 vintages were both outright winners of the Sparkling Rosé International trophy in Verona (Bollicini Del Mondo). Camel Valley 2009 Pinot Noir Rosé was crowned Sparkling Rosé World Champion ahead of Bollinger Champagne rosé and also won the International Wine Challenge Trophy. Awarded 95/100 points from Chair of Judges Tom Stevenson, editor of Christie's World Encyclopedia of Champagne and sparkling wine. Our Ortega is made hand-picked grapes, harvested early October, the Ortega grapes from Kent started fermenting in our winery on the 6th of October. The pale yellow juice aged in a stainless steel tank and in a 3rd vintage oak barrel from Burgundy, before being bottled in May 2024. The wine is unfiltered, unfined and vegan friendly.
This white wine starts with a floral and citrus nose. The palate has flavours of peach, citrus and flowers leading to a long finish.
Merstone Ortega pairs perfectly with seafood, fish and chicken dishes or can be enjoyed on its own.
