Davenport Diamond Fields Pinot Noir Early 2022 (6 Bottles) Rotherfield, East Sussex, England

£126.00
by Wines by Cellars

UK MAINLAND SHIPPING INCLUDED

English organic Pinot Noir, grown on a south facing sandy clay soil site. The grapes are 50% destemmed (without cruching the berries) and fermented with natural yeast for a 10 days before pressing. Fermenting juice from the press is moved straight into oak barrels (barrels are between 5 and 20 years old) where it completes fermentation. The wine is then matured in old oak barriques for 9 months before bottling. We bottle without filtration and this wine may have a slight sediment in the bottle.

2022 vintage was another good vintage for Diamiond Fields, producing only 2000 bottles. The aromas of raspberry, plum and cherry and a pale red colour mark this lighter style of Pinot Noir. The alcohol level is only 11% making a very fresh fruit driven wine, perfect for a summer day. There is a backbone of tannic structure behind the fruit which will help the wine to mature over the next year or two.

Pinot Noir Early is a natural mutation of Pinot Noir that ripens about a week or two earlier than most Pinot Noir clones. It is naturally low yielding and dificult to grow in the UK.

Melbury Vale Batch #02 The Signature (6 Bottles) Shaftesbury, Dorset, England

£90.00
by Wines by Cellars

UK MAINLAND SHIPPING INCLUDED

When Melbury Vale first built their winery, that vintage yielded a very small crop of what became the original Signature wine. It was a one-off bottling that represented a light fruity red wine that could be enjoyed throughout the summertime. Fast forward a few years later and our winemaker, through some blending trials, found that some of the 2018 red blend mixed with the 2018 rosé wine in tank created a juicy, fruity, flavorful light red we couldn’t stop sipping. The 2018 rosé was slightly different from the 2019 Virtue we bottled, so we decided to use the rosé in a fun, experimental way. While it’s not typical to blend red and rosé wine, once the blending started we felt like we had created something novice wine lovers all the way to oenophiles would enjoy and appreciate. On the nose you immediately pick up notes of wild cherry, fig, and bramble, while the palate is a burst of cranberry, pomegranate, and hibiscus. Best served slightly chilled, this is a crowd pleaser and is a great base wine for a party jug of a sangria type wine cocktail.

Food Pairings: charcuterie spread with cured meats, hard cheeses, grilled peppers, artichokes, and olives. Could also stand up to any dark chocolate dessert because of the bright fruitiness. Also try with balsamic macerated berries.

100% Pinot Noir, the grapes from our vineyard were handpicked, and pressed in October. After low temperature fermentation to accentuate the thiol aromas the wine was left in tank over winter but not allowed to go to malolactic fermentation, the juice was very clear and required minimal fining and developed a rich aroma of red fruits with a soft creamy palate with crisp acidity. It was Johann Rupert who constructed a state-of-theart winemaking facility, catapulting the farm into a prestigious wine estate. The focus is on terroir specific wines and therefore it would seem obvious that the brand is made up of an impressive portfolio of farms representing the best in grape producing locations. The portfolio is made up of L’Ormarins from Franschhoek, Rooderust from Darling, Riebeeksrivier from the Swartland and Altima from isolated Elandskloof. Each site offers optimum varietal specific growing conditions, allowing Anthonij Rupert Wyne to adhere to the requirements of their different brands.

The nose is warm and inviting, with aromas of fruitcake, blackberries, subtle spice, oak, and a hint of dark chocolate. The same approachable charm carries through to the palate, offering a delightful blend of red and black fruits like plum, mulberry, and soft Agen prune, complemented by notes of Christmas cake and gentle spice.
