This vintage of Kerner has been on an upward trajectory ever since we first tasted it in 2018. Displaying the richer, aromatic, and honestly more intruiging side of Kerner, it has a bouquet of sweet white flowers, aromatic orchard fruits, with a nicely balanced sweetness. Anthonij Rupert Wyne was founded on the farm, L’Ormarins in Franschhoek. Originally owned by the late Anthonij Rupert, who passed away in 2001, the farm was eventually taken over by his brother Johann Rupert in 2003 and the brand named after him. It was Johann Rupert who constructed a state-of-theart winemaking facility, catapulting the farm into a prestigious wine estate. The focus is on terroir specific wines and therefore it would seem obvious that the brand is made up of an impressive portfolio of farms representing the best in grape producing locations. The portfolio is made up of L’Ormarins from Franschhoek, Rooderust from Darling, Riebeeksrivier from the Swartland and Altima from isolated Elandskloof. Each site offers optimum varietal specific growing conditions, allowing Anthonij Rupert Wyne to adhere to the requirements of their different brands.
This wine offers a complex bouquet of fruitcake, cedar, cocoa, and a delicate hint of dried lavender. On the palate, it is broad, fleshy, and succulent, delivering the same depth of flavour promised by the nose. The spice-infused cedar combines beautifully with rich dark fruitcake notes. The texture is wonderfully soft, rounded, and silky, showcasing cohesion and refinement. It possesses impressive density and concentration without feeling overpowering, and the oak influence from maturation is seamlessly integrated.

Our 2018 ‘Alwyn’ Classic Cuvée is named after a Saxon nobleman and first known resident of the original Saxon manor of Chilworth. Pale straw in colour, the 2018 vintage abounds with toasty brioche notes on the nose and delivers a warm and rich mid-palate depth with a long and perfectly balanced finish.
It can be enjoyed as an aperitif as well as an accompaniment to a meal.

NECTAR FROM A DIFFERENT HECTARE
This very fine bottle of white wine comes from the exceptional Ktima Gerovassiliou, who are veritable magicians. It is important to know that, in a market now well represented by the indigenous Malagousia varietal, this estate was responsible for rescuing said grape from extinction in 1981. This baby is the benchmark of the varietal and comes from immaculate 74 acre slopes in Epanomi.
It’s all in here; white pear, mango and lemon zest on the nose and a mouthful of refreshing fruit with a hint of mountain herbs underpinned by a delicious flinty, mineral backbone. Obviously this is a natural partner to Greek and Mediterranean food but it has the kahunas to stand up to Thai spice too. If you like Sauvignon Blanc or Bacchus you’re going to love this.

2022 produced some of the ripest Kerner we have ever experienced - harvested at over 12.5% abv. The result is an astoundingly aromatic and intense wine.

2022 was very kind to our Kerner. Harvested at record sugar levels, this rich & aromatic expression of Kerner is both joyous and fascinatingly complex. The 7 month fermentation, and an extra month on lees created a luxuriously textured wine that somehow managed to not overpower the primary fruit. Enjoy on its own, or alongside rich north European cuisine (roast pork, mushrooms).
