In addition to working with his wife Núria Altés on their ambitious joint project in Terra Alta, Herència Altés, Rafael De Haan has spent the last 10 years sourcing wines across Spain for his excellent négociant business, Bodegas Abanico. In the process he fell in love with the diverstiy of Spanish terroir, especially some lesser-known appellations and unusual varietals. This inspired him to launch the De Haan Altés Custom Cuvées project; Rafael partners with local winemakers he has known for years to craft unique, exceptionally-made cuvees that are the ultimate expressions of their respective terroirs.
Straw colour with a steely green rim. Bright and clean. Varied aromas, fruit and citrus predominating, apple and stone-fruit hints, with some flower notes. Tasty and well-structured in the mouth. Intense aftertaste with fruity and floral hints.

Ashdown Boundary Block is made from 100% Merlot grapes. Aged in old oak barrels for 19 months. Light to medium bodied with a ruby to garnet hue. On the nose aromas of plum, blackcurrant, blackberry, almond, rhubarb, Cherry Bakewell and vanilla leading to flavors of cooked cherries, black currant jam, vanilla, cranberries and blackberries.
It is smooth with a good length. Its tannin structure is well balanced and delicate, while still delivering an intense and complex taste. Enjoy this wine with roast beef, mushroom risotto, or game dishes. Well-balanced acidity and medium body create a crisp, lively texture that carries to a refreshing finish. Star-bright pale lemon hue and well-defined legs. It has pronounced aromas of ripe Cox's apples, yellow plum and hints of pineapple plus creamy notes of custard.
The palate is mellow and flavourful with a creamy texture and soft acidity. Flavours of Russet apple, quince and pineapple combine with hints of vanilla and creamed coconut on the finish. it has wonderful depth of flavour, great balance and a silky elegance.
Good served slightly chilled with meaty fish such as salt-baked cod or local fish and chips. Also good with roast chicken and thyme-scented sauteed potatoes. It works well with pastry dishes like salmon-en-croute and can even stands up to smoked fish dishes such as smoked haddock timbale or mild curried fish kedgeree.
