About Bow in the Cloud Vineyard
Nestled in the picturesque south Cotswolds, near Malmesbury, lies Bow in the Cloud Vineyard, a 3-acre family-run estate. Our story began in 1992 when Keith planted the first vines by hand, cultivating Bacchus, Schonburger, and Seyval Blanc varieties. Today, his wife Esther and daughter Sophie carry on the legacy, aided by local volunteers and international helpers.
Our home, Noah's Ark, dates back hundreds of years, built by a man named Noah. The hamlet's name was popularized by Sunday Times columnist Godfrey Smith in 1982. Intriguingly, biblical Noah's vineyard inspired our theme.
Situated on cornbrash soil over oolitic limestone, our vineyard benefits from well-drained, warm conditions. This rare limestone composition, also found in Champagne, provides calcium-rich soils, retaining moisture and promoting disease-resistant berries. Our dry still whites showcase the minerality imparted by this exceptional terroir.
We produce approximately 2,000 bottles annually, traditionally sold locally. Our wines have been named with the help of Sunday Times readers, continuing the community's involvement in our story.
