About Breaky Bottom
I’m fortunate to have grown up surrounded by good wine and food, thanks to my French/Italian mother and French grandfather, Alex Mercier, a renowned restaurateur. In 1974, I planted Breaky Bottom vineyard in a secluded fold of the Sussex Downs, recognizing the potential for cool-climate wines. With just six acres of vines, I’ve built a reputation for producing top-quality, limited-edition wines. My approach is rooted in tradition, with a focus on sustainability and conservation. I’ve dedicated each cuvée to friends and family, celebrating their contributions to my life.
Natural England supports Breaky Bottom through the Higher Level Stewardship Scheme ‘to conserve wildlife, maintain and enhance landscape quality and character and protect the natural environment.’ Our holding is made up of a six acre vineyard surrounded by steep hillsides of species rich chalk Downland grazed by sheep. The traditional flint barn and farmhouse, originally built in 1827, form the boundaries of what was once a winter cattle yard.Sheep have been part of the life at Breaky Bottom for hundreds of years. The original people who lived on the farm were shepherds.

As its name suggests this wine is made of selected base wines from multiple vintages to produce an approachable and immediately enjoyable style. Others call this style ‘non-vintage’ – we just prefer the name ‘multi-vintage’! The blend of this wine will vary slightly each year in order to maintain a consistent style, but it will typically be a combination of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir or Pinot Meunier and will undergo 3 years on-lees ageing.
Generous and soft on the palate, this wine is open and expressive, exhibiting delightful panettone-like aromas of sweet baked bread, dried apricots, nuts and candied citrus peels.

Oxney Estate Organic Wines Woodhouse Pinot (6 Bottles) Rye, East Sussex, England
FREE SHIPPING WITHIN UK MAINLAND
Woodhouse Pinot is a light and fruity red with lovely complexities and exceedingly moreish!
The demand for red wines in the UK is high, and we created this multi vintage wine to take advantage of those years that are very kind, providing heaps of ripe red fruit, as well as those years where it is a bit more of a struggle.
Each year we will add to a perpetual reserve, much like the soleras system used for making sherry, whereby we partially remove wine from barrels each year for bottling, then top up those same barrels with wine from the current vintage.
This not only blends the wine for a fairly consistent flavour profile, but is also gives the wine an opportunity to become more balanced as each vintage comes and goes. From tannins and acidity, to fruity notes and savoury notes. Bottled un-fined and un-filtered.
Enjoy at lunch or dinner with many different foods or all on it’s own. This delightful red wine may be a little too easy drinking!
