About Breaky Bottom
I’m fortunate to have grown up surrounded by good wine and food, thanks to my French/Italian mother and French grandfather, Alex Mercier, a renowned restaurateur. In 1974, I planted Breaky Bottom vineyard in a secluded fold of the Sussex Downs, recognizing the potential for cool-climate wines. With just six acres of vines, I’ve built a reputation for producing top-quality, limited-edition wines. My approach is rooted in tradition, with a focus on sustainability and conservation. I’ve dedicated each cuvée to friends and family, celebrating their contributions to my life.
Natural England supports Breaky Bottom through the Higher Level Stewardship Scheme ‘to conserve wildlife, maintain and enhance landscape quality and character and protect the natural environment.’ Our holding is made up of a six acre vineyard surrounded by steep hillsides of species rich chalk Downland grazed by sheep. The traditional flint barn and farmhouse, originally built in 1827, form the boundaries of what was once a winter cattle yard.Sheep have been part of the life at Breaky Bottom for hundreds of years. The original people who lived on the farm were shepherds.

It displays a vibrant ruby hue with garnet reflections. The nose is elegant and aromatic, showcasing morello cherries, ripe red fruits, and a subtle hint of blackberries. Delicate spiced notes of allspice and vanilla emerge, layered with earthy undertones that hint at its barrel maturation.
On the palate, the wine is beautifully balanced, with a soft, velvety texture and graceful tannins. The red fruit core is complemented by gentle spice and a whisper of oak-driven vanilla. The acidity is well-integrated, offering freshness while supporting the wine’s structure.
The malolactic fermentation and oak ageing contribute to a rounded, harmonious body with a touch of complexity. The finish is long and refined, with lingering notes of cherry, spice, and a touch of earthiness that promises graceful ageing potential.
A versatile partner, it pairs perfectly with rosemary roast lamb, game dishes, grilled pork, roast salmon, or earthy mushroom-based cuisine. Juicy, crunchy, vibrant Pinot Noir all held in an elegant, very ‘classic’ structure. Concentrated brambles (blackberry) and black cherry, damson fruit overlaid with quintessential Pinot perfumed aromatics and subtle dry spice. Subtle fennel and violet give further aromatic complexity and intrigue. Medium-light, chalky tannins give the wine great texture, acidity is refreshing but well-integrated and harmonious. Long, complete finish with all components pulling-together to the end.

Knightor Winery Pinot Noir 2023 (6 Bottles) St Austell Bay, Cornwall, England

Character: Light, Fruit-forward
Aromas: Cherry, Wild Strawberry, Spice
Flavours: Red Fruits, Gentle Oak
Style: A light and summery English Red.
Food Pairing: Pair with lamb, game, or enjoy on its own.
A pale red Pinot Noir, the colour is deceptive, not revealing the powerful red fruits hidden within. Full of wild red fruit characters on the nose, the palate is soft, with intense red cherry and gentle spice from the time spent on oak. The perfect red for summer, ideal with a BBQ.
Winemaker's Notes: Just the ripest Pinot Noir was used for this light red. The grapes were crushed and fermented partly in tank and partly in barrel. Throughout the ferment regular pump overs were conducted to extract a little more colour and weight. The oaked proportion of the blend then spent a further 12 months in oak before being bottled.
Wine: Still Red
Grape Variety: Pinot Noir
Body: Light
Sweetness: Dry
Alcohol: 12%

Woodhouse Pinot is a light and fruity red with lovely complexities and exceedingly moreish!
The demand for red wines in the UK is high, and we created this multi vintage wine to take advantage of those years that are very kind, providing heaps of ripe red fruit, as well as those years where it is a bit more of a struggle.
Each year we will add to a perpetual reserve, much like the soleras system used for making sherry, whereby we partially remove wine from barrels each year for bottling, then top up those same barrels with wine from the current vintage.
This not only blends the wine for a fairly consistent flavour profile, but is also gives the wine an opportunity to become more balanced as each vintage comes and goes. From tannins and acidity, to fruity notes and savoury notes. Bottled un-fined and un-filtered.
Enjoy at lunch or dinner with many different foods or all on it’s own. This delightful red wine may be a little too easy drinking!
