About Breaky Bottom
I’m fortunate to have grown up surrounded by good wine and food, thanks to my French/Italian mother and French grandfather, Alex Mercier, a renowned restaurateur. In 1974, I planted Breaky Bottom vineyard in a secluded fold of the Sussex Downs, recognizing the potential for cool-climate wines. With just six acres of vines, I’ve built a reputation for producing top-quality, limited-edition wines. My approach is rooted in tradition, with a focus on sustainability and conservation. I’ve dedicated each cuvée to friends and family, celebrating their contributions to my life.
Natural England supports Breaky Bottom through the Higher Level Stewardship Scheme ‘to conserve wildlife, maintain and enhance landscape quality and character and protect the natural environment.’ Our holding is made up of a six acre vineyard surrounded by steep hillsides of species rich chalk Downland grazed by sheep. The traditional flint barn and farmhouse, originally built in 1827, form the boundaries of what was once a winter cattle yard.Sheep have been part of the life at Breaky Bottom for hundreds of years. The original people who lived on the farm were shepherds.

Albourne Estate Multi-Vintage Sparkling (6 Bottles) Albourne, West Sussex, England

As its name suggests this wine is made of selected base wines from multiple vintages to produce an approachable and immediately enjoyable style. Others call this style ‘non-vintage’ – we just prefer the name ‘multi-vintage’! The blend of this wine will vary slightly each year in order to maintain a consistent style, but it will typically be a combination of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir or Pinot Meunier and will undergo 3 years on-lees ageing.
Generous and soft on the palate, this wine is open and expressive, exhibiting delightful panettone-like aromas of sweet baked bread, dried apricots, nuts and candied citrus peels.
Albourne Estate Red Pinot Noir 2019 (6 Bottles) Albourne, West Sussex, England
UK MAINLAND SHIPPING INCLUDED
This is our second vintage of Red Pinot Noir and displays a deeper, richer ruby colour and a more complex nose than our 2018 version. This is partly due to the vintage and partly due to increased use of the ‘saignee’ method during winemaking. The nose offers aromas of rich dark berries including black cherries backed by notes of cigarbox, black olives and dark chocolate. On the palate it delivers excellent body for a cool climate Pinot Noir with mature soft tannins, a balanced mouthfeel and a harmonious lingering finish. All of this wine has spent 12 months in a mix of new and old French oak barrels before being bottled by hand, unfined and unfiltered, under cork to allow gentle ageing.
Highly enjoyable with charcuteries cheese and nuts as an aperitif and great with a casserole or barbecued meats and vegetables.
