About Carr Taylor
In 1969, David Carr Taylor’s vision became reality when he planted a vineyard on his East Sussex family estate. The inaugural harvest in 1976 yielded 2,000 bottles, marking the beginning of Carr Taylor’s success. Over four decades, we’ve cultivated a reputation for excellence, earning over 150 international awards. Our unique terroir, sheltered by the Hastings Ridge and benefiting from the Gulf Stream, allows us to produce crisp, aromatic wines with flavors echoing local fruits like green apple and pear.
Our vineyard’s gentle slope, low altitude, and clay loam soils create an ideal environment. We’ve adapted German viticulture research to thrive in England’s cool climate. Our Geneva Double Curtain trellising system optimizes yields and minimizes frost damage. As pioneers in English winemaking, we’ve evolved, replanting with Bacchus, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Blanc. Our rustic winery, converted from 100-year-old stables, houses state-of-the-art equipment.
From harvesting to bottling, every step is taken on-site to preserve the natural flavors. Our passion for winemaking shines through in every bottle. Visit us and taste the essence of East Sussex. Join the Carr Taylor family on a journey through the rolling hills, vineyards, and winemaking traditions that make our wines truly special.

2017 vintage review in The Times by Jane Macquitty 'Bob and Sam make England’s best pink bubble in a pretty corner of the Cornish countryside. It’s constantly classy, champagne-method gem and bursts with zingy crushed-strawberry fruit. Wonder to the park with this and have a wonderful time. '
Described by Victoria Moore as ‘a triumph, it’s completely delicious – like a wild cherry blossom nose-kiss’. Jane Macquitty, the Times critic writes about the 2016 vintage: ‘Camel Valley’s strawberry scented Pinot noir rose Brut is ‘the best …’.

A delightfully delicate nose of wild strawberry, shortbread, citrus zest and faint red berries. Copper pink and pale in appearance, our Sparkling Rosé balances generous texture with a fine mousse. Embracing purity and precision, this debut rosé is a detailed, small-batch, low-intervention wine.
Our winemaking embraces purity, texture and balance. A detailed, small-batch, low-intervention approach allows the fruit to shine through.
"Made at contract winery Itasca by Ben Smith, who was responsible for making my highest scoring English wine of all time (2018 Oxney Chardonnay), I have no problem declaring that this is the UK’s finest Pinot Blanc to date.
The fruit comes from the Missing Gate Vineyard in Essex, where it was hand-picked and whole bunch pressed into third fill Burgundy barrels. I was lucky enough to taste a bottle late last year, and it is as lively and energetic as any white wine you will taste.
A low sulphur regime and minimal fining have left the beautiful fruit to romance your senses. This is a truly brilliant wine with sensational depth, complexity and length. It is not slippery and smooth like an Alsatian PB, but grainy, combative and textural like an epic Chablis. It is nothing short of stunning, and it is certainly the epitome of brave winemaking."
