About Fenny Castle Vineyard
A dream realised on the edge of the Somerset Levels, Fenny Castle Vineyard is a small, family-run estate in the picturesque village of Worth, near Wells. Owners James and Gill Cumming’s vision of planting a vineyard on the steep slopes overlooking Glastonbury Tor finally took root in 2005.
After years of farming and raising a family, James pursued a Viticulture and Winemaking degree at Plumpton College. This marked the beginning of our journey into the wine industry. We planted our first Bacchus vines in 2011, followed by Ortega and Pinot Noir the next year.As a small wine producer with our own winery we are able to hand-craft our wines with unparalleled care and attention to detail. Our winery is small but well equipped and using the best of traditional methods combined with cutting-edge winemaking knowledge we aim to produce wines of exceptional quality and individuality.
Careful selection of only the best grapes together with gentle pressing and cool fermentation we take care to preserve the freshness and intensity of the delicate aromas and flavours at every stage of the winemaking process. Today, we’re proud to offer a range of multi-award-winning wines. Our sparkling wines are crafted from 100% Pinot Noir.

A lovely nose of soft apple blossom and gentle apricot lead to a palate that is just dry but deliciously fresh and easy to get along with. The apricot follows on from the nose and is combined with rounded citrus fruits – mainly subtle orange and lemon. This Court Garden Ditchling White is a delicious blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Ortega. The varieties were fermented and aged in stainless steel to retain the clean aromas and soft fruit notes and then blended to create this delicious single-vineyard estate white wine. This is a light medium bodied dry wine. There are aromas of apple, grapefruit, lime and stone fruits, as well as tropical fruits on the palette and a clean fresh finish. Enjoy with grilled chicken, fish and seafood pasta dishes or on its own.

We don't normally produce single variety white wines, but when something is of this quality and so typical of the grape variety, the temptation is sometimes too much.
The 2023 Ortega is made from our oldest organic vines, planted in 1991. It has a mineral earthy style with aromas of yeast and fruit. Ideal with white fish, but also a pleasure to drink on its own.

The latest release from FHV. A zesty Ortega, a young and fresh wine that is full of flavour and highly drinkable!
Within an hour of harvesting the grapes are taken to our winemaker Will Davenport at the award winning Davenport's Vineyard and pressed on the same day to retain the natural flavours of the grapes.
Ortega is a German grape that is earlier to ripen and known for its low acidity. Medium bodied, zesty, crisp and fruity, it is a perfect aperitif or pairs well with seafood and spicy foods.

Our Ortega is made hand-picked grapes, harvested early October, the Ortega grapes from Kent started fermenting in our winery on the 6th of October. The pale yellow juice aged in a stainless steel tank and in a 3rd vintage oak barrel from Burgundy, before being bottled in May 2024. The wine is unfiltered, unfined and vegan friendly.
This white wine starts with a floral and citrus nose. The palate has flavours of peach, citrus and flowers leading to a long finish.
Merstone Ortega pairs perfectly with seafood, fish and chicken dishes or can be enjoyed on its own.
