The latest release from FHV. A zesty Ortega, a young and fresh wine that is full of flavour and highly drinkable!
Within an hour of harvesting the grapes are taken to our winemaker Will Davenport at the award winning Davenport’s Vineyard and pressed on the same day to retain the natural flavours of the grapes.
Ortega is a German grape that is earlier to ripen and known for its low acidity. Medium bodied, zesty, crisp and fruity, it is a perfect aperitif or pairs well with seafood and spicy foods.
About Forty Hall Vineyard
Forty Hall Vineyard is an exciting social enterprise which has established a 10 acre community vineyard in Enfield, North London. Largely looked after by local volunteers, the vineyard is the first commercial scale vineyard in London since the middle ages, producing English still and sparkling wines.
Situated on Capel Manor College’s Forty Hall Farm, we are certified organic and dedicated to demonstrating environmentally sustainable farming and vine-growing practices.
FORTY HALL FARM
Forty Hall Farm is a 170-acre organic, mixed farm and local food hub. The farm has a variety of animals, including rare breeds, and also holds a thriving community orchard, a forest garden and a new market garden. The farm’s meat, vegetables and fruit are sold to shops and restaurants across London and at the monthly farmers’ market.
We contribute to the farm’s aims of bringing together people from Enfield and across London to get involved in the growing, cooking and eating of local food.

Ortega grapes ripen from the beginning of September – quite early for white grapes and therefore excellent in our rather damp Autumn climate.

This Court Garden Ditchling White is a delicious blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Ortega. The varieties were fermented and aged in stainless steel to retain the clean aromas and soft fruit notes and then blended to create this delicious single-vineyard estate white wine. This is a light medium bodied dry wine. There are aromas of apple, grapefruit, lime and stone fruits, as well as tropical fruits on the palette and a clean fresh finish. Our Ortega is made hand-picked grapes, harvested early October, the Ortega grapes from Kent started fermenting in our winery on the 6th of October. The pale yellow juice aged in a stainless steel tank and in a 3rd vintage oak barrel from Burgundy, before being bottled in May 2024. The wine is unfiltered, unfined and vegan friendly.
This white wine starts with a floral and citrus nose. The palate has flavours of peach, citrus and flowers leading to a long finish.
Merstone Ortega pairs perfectly with seafood, fish and chicken dishes or can be enjoyed on its own.
Plumpton Estate Medium Sweet Ortega 2021 (6 Bottles) Plumpton, East Sussex, England

The Ortega grapes are hand-harvested and transported to the winery where they are destemmed, crushed, and pressed. The ferment was tasted daily and stopped at desired residual sugar level by chilling and filtering. The yeast was specially selected and was a sweet wine yeast Zymaflore ST. This yeast is susceptible to cold shock, making it easy to stop the ferment.
An aromatic medium sweet wine, well balanced with uplifting aromas of peach, gooseberry and elderflower.

A single estate, blended white wine. The blend is lightly oaked to enhance the butterscotch complexity of white peach and grape flavours and produces a floral and honeysuckle nose, all lightly balanced with a gentle acidity.
Aromas: White Stone Fruit, Citrus, Cream Soda.
Palate: Well-rounded and textural, lovely high acidity. White Stone, Citrus Fruit, complemented by French oak which has been used sparingly during maturation.
