About Bow in the Cloud Vineyard
Nestled in the picturesque south Cotswolds, near Malmesbury, lies Bow in the Cloud Vineyard, a 3-acre family-run estate. Our story began in 1992 when Keith planted the first vines by hand, cultivating Bacchus, Schonburger, and Seyval Blanc varieties. Today, his wife Esther and daughter Sophie carry on the legacy, aided by local volunteers and international helpers.
Our home, Noah’s Ark, dates back hundreds of years, built by a man named Noah. The hamlet’s name was popularized by Sunday Times columnist Godfrey Smith in 1982. Intriguingly, biblical Noah’s vineyard inspired our theme.
Situated on cornbrash soil over oolitic limestone, our vineyard benefits from well-drained, warm conditions. This rare limestone composition, also found in Champagne, provides calcium-rich soils, retaining moisture and promoting disease-resistant berries. Our dry still whites showcase the minerality imparted by this exceptional terroir.
We produce approximately 2,000 bottles annually, traditionally sold locally. Our wines have been named with the help of Sunday Times readers, continuing the community’s involvement in our story.
Join us at Noah’s Ark to experience the beauty and charm of Bow in the Cloud Vineyard.

This wine is a blend of Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir from the 2023 vintage and has been crafted to create a light delicate, fresh but aromatic white blend that celebrates the very best of the North Downs.
The Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir were whole bunch pressed with the Chardonnay formed purely from the cuvee fraction of the whole bunch press. The Pinot Gris was crushed and destemmed with a 2-hour soak. There was an addition of tea leaf tannins to the tank fermented wine to reduce the amount of added sulphites. 24% of the Chardonnay was fermented and aged in barrel for six months and 10% of the Chardonnay came from our Chardonnay ‘solera’ reserve tank which we started in 2015
This is the fourth in a series of limited-edition wines celebrating a chapter in our local history and the unsung heroines of the SOE in World War II who trained at nearby Wanborough Manor.
