About Sherborne Castle Wines Wake Court Vineyard
The tradition of winemaking on the Sherborne Castle Estates dates back to the Middle Ages. Bishop Roger, who built the Old Castle, planted a vineyard on the northern side of the lake, which was mentioned in the bull of Eugenius II by 1146.
In 1982, John Wingfield Digby revived the tradition at Wake Court in Bishops Caundle. The three-hectare vineyard features a south-facing slope with limestone loam and clay soils. The vines are planted using the Geneva Double Curtain system, allowing for optimal light exposure.
The Wake Court Vineyard produces fine wines, including a Special Reserve blend of four grape varieties, traditional method sparkling wines, and a wine brandy aged in oak. Annual production averages 15,000 bottles.
Grape varieties grown include Bacchus, Pinot Noir, Regner, Reichensteiner, Schonburger, and Seyval Blanc. After harvesting, the wine is produced by contract winemaker Steve Brooksbank using modern technology and equipment.
Interestingly, Sir Kenelm Digby, a member of the Digby family, invented the sparkling wine bottle in the 17th century. Today, the Sherborne Castle Estates continue to honour this legacy with their exceptional wines.

Greyfriars Vineyard Yolande 2023 (6 Bottles) Puttenham, Surrey, England
UK MAINLAND DELIVERY INCLUDED
This wine is a blend of Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir from the 2023 vintage and has been crafted to create a light delicate, fresh but aromatic white blend that celebrates the very best of the North Downs.
The Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir were whole bunch pressed with the Chardonnay formed purely from the cuvee fraction of the whole bunch press. The Pinot Gris was crushed and destemmed with a 2-hour soak. There was an addition of tea leaf tannins to the tank fermented wine to reduce the amount of added sulphites. 24% of the Chardonnay was fermented and aged in barrel for six months and 10% of the Chardonnay came from our Chardonnay ‘solera’ reserve tank which we started in 2015
This is the fourth in a series of limited-edition wines celebrating a chapter in our local history and the unsung heroines of the SOE in World War II who trained at nearby Wanborough Manor.

Henners Gardner Street Classic 2023 (6 Bottles) Herstmonceux, East Sussex, England

Gardner Street has the classic floral, elderflower note we have come to know of contemporary Bacchus, married with a touch of ripe stone fruit from the barrel fermented Chardonnay.
Sourced from vineyard partners in Essex and Kent we harvested the vineyard parcels separately and fermented as small lots to allow the expression of their respective sites to shine through. 30% of the blend was fermented in neutral 300L French oak barrels and
allowed to go through malolactic fermentation, while the remaining parcels were fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel and did not go through malolactic fermentation.
