Huxelrebe

Huxelrebe is a distinctive German white grape variety, created in 1927 by viticulturist Georg Scheu at the Alzey Research Institute. It’s a cross between Chasselas and Courtillier Musqué (Muscat Précoce de Saumur), named in honour of viticulture pioneer Fritz Huxel. Known for its generous yields and aromatic profile, it has become a valued grape for both still and dessert wines.

In the glass, Huxelrebe wines are often fragrant and expressive, showing flavours of muscled peach, apricot, and tropical fruits, with touches of grapefruit, honey, or elderflower. Its naturally high acidity balances its fruitiness, making it well suited to both dry and lusciously sweet styles, including late-harvest and botrytised wines.

For UK drinkers, Huxelrebe offers something a little different: a fruity, aromatic white that pairs beautifully with spicy Asian dishes, fruity desserts, soft cheeses, and poultry. It’s an ideal choice for adventurous wine lovers seeking a bold yet elegant alternative.
