Seyval Blanc

Seyval Blanc is a French hybrid white grape created in the early 20th century from Seibel 5656 × Rayon d’Or. It has become one of the most successful grapes in cool-climate vineyards across England, Wales, Canada, and the US, thanks to its reliable yields, frost resistance, and disease tolerance.

In style, Seyval Blanc produces wines that are light to medium-bodied with fresh acidity and flavours of citrus, green apple, gooseberry, and subtle herbaceous notes. Unoaked examples are crisp and refreshing, while barrel-aged versions can show more rounded textures and hints of vanilla or cream. It is also widely used as a base for English sparkling wines, where its bright acidity and clean fruit make it especially valuable.

For UK drinkers, Seyval Blanc is versatile and approachable. It pairs beautifully with seafood, chicken, goat’s cheese, and summer salads, making it a true staple of modern English winemaking.
