Nestled in the picturesque Weald of Kent, Biddenden Vineyards is one of the UK’s most established and celebrated wineries. Founded in 1969 by the Barnes family, it stands as a testament to the evolution of English winemaking, blending tradition with innovation. Biddenden Vineyards began as a 9-acre plot dedicated to growing apples for cider production. Realizing the region’s potential for grape cultivation, the Barnes family shifted their focus to winemaking, inspired by the success of Germanic grape varieties in cooler climates. Over the years, Biddenden has grown to encompass 23 acres, producing a range of award-winning wines while remaining family-owned and operated, now under the stewardship of the second and third generations of the Barnes family.
Biddenden’s winemaking philosophy is deeply rooted in sustainability and quality. The vineyard is planted on south-facing slopes, maximizing sunlight exposure and ensuring optimal conditions for ripening.
