About Frome Valley Vineyard
In 2005, we embarked on a new adventure, taking over Paunton Court Vineyard as viticultural novices. Our predecessors had established the vineyard 15 years earlier, at the dawn of the English wine revival. As we learned and grew, so did our family, and soon everyone was pitching in to help with the vineyard. Tucked into a curve of the River Frome, our vineyard benefits from a benevolent microclimate. The sumptuous clay loam soil, deposited over millennia, is the foundation of our award-winning wines. At 52 degrees north latitude, we're on the edge of viable viticulture, but this marginal climate brings its own benefits and challenges.
From the outset, we've strived to minimize our environmental impact. We're proud to be one of the first small vineyards to join the Sustainable Wines GB project, ensuring our practices are as sustainable as possible. We prune and harvest by hand, use solar panels, biomass heating, and even have a vegetable garden and organic cider orchard. Our Wiltshire Horn flock helps with "mowing" and fertilizing the vineyard, and we've created a pond haven for wildlife.
