About Simpsons' Wine Estate
At Simpsons' Wine Estate, we believe that exceptional wines are rooted in their terroir. That's why we carefully selected the finest parcels of land in southern England to plant our vines. Our estate is nestled in the picturesque Elham Valley, an unspoilt seam in the North Downs of Kent, boasting pristine beauty, a favourable climate, and iconic chalky soils.
Our vineyards occupy glorious positions on the sunny, sheltered slopes of the village of Barham, protected from the English climate by ancient woodland. Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), our vineyards offer breathtaking views of the English countryside.
We planted our first 10 hectares of Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, and Pinot Noir in 2014 at our Roman Road Vineyard, situated alongside the ancient Roman road. We expanded to 20 additional hectares at our Railway Hill Vineyard in 2016 and 2017.
Our intensely lime-rich chalk soil, part of the same chalk ridge that stretches from southern England to Champagne and Burgundy, is ideal for cultivating Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay. This soil type provides the perfect balance of drainage and water absorption, allowing our vines to thrive.
