Divico

Divico is a remarkable Swiss red grape, bred in the late 1990s (released around 2013) at Agroscope in Pully, by crossing Gamaret and Bronner, aiming to blend vivid vinifera character with robust disease resistance. Named after a legendary Helvetic chieftain, Divico thrives in cooler, damp climates thanks to its strong resistance to powdery and downy mildew, grey rot, and botrytis.

This late-ripening grape yields deeply coloured, richly structured reds with pronounced tannins, and aromatic profiles featuring spice, cloves, black blueberries, violets, and a touch of vanilla or chocolate. Although still rare, about 74 hectares are now planted in Switzerland, and its cultivation in the UK is already underway—producers in Kent describe Divico as potentially game-changing for still English reds.

A compelling wine for UK buyers seeking bold, sustainable new varietals with rich colour, structure, and true personality.
