Regent

Regent is a modern German red grape, bred in 1967 by crossing Diana (Silvaner × Müller-Thurgau) with Chambourcin. Officially approved in 1996, it was designed for cooler climates and has since become a favourite in the UK, thanks to its excellent resistance to mildew and fungal diseases. This makes it a popular, sustainable choice for growers looking to reduce chemical use while producing high-quality reds.

In the glass, Regent delivers deeply coloured wines with a medium to full body and smooth tannins. Flavour profiles often include ripe black cherry, plum, and blackberry, balanced by subtle spice, earthy notes, and a touch of chocolate when oak-aged. Its approachable style sits somewhere between Pinot Noir and Merlot, making it both familiar and distinctive.

For UK drinkers, Regent pairs beautifully with roast lamb, venison, hearty stews, or mature cheeses, offering richness, food-friendliness, and a sustainable edge.
