About Hendred Vineyard
Hendred Vineyard is nestled on the slopes west of East Hendred, a picturesque spring-line village in Oxfordshire’s Vale of the White Horse. For over 50 years, this boutique vineyard has produced award-winning still and sparkling wines, reflecting the rich terroir of the region. The nutrient-dense soil, combined with sunny, breezy conditions and meticulous, hands-on farming, yields exceptionally clean, succulent grapes that shine in every bottle.
Originally established by the pioneering McKinnon family, the vineyard spans three acres and features Pinot Noir, Seyval Blanc, Madeleine Angevine, and Bacchus vines. Local expert Biagio Grillo played a key role in its early success. Today, the Bell family continues its legacy with the help of Philippe Desaint, a skilled viticulturist from southern France who brings dedication and innovation to the vineyard’s development.
Hendred wines are a true reflection of the Oxfordshire countryside, consistently earning accolades, including 'Best Rosé' in 2019 and 2023, and 'Best Sparkling Wine' in 2020 from the Thames and Chilterns Vineyards Association. These celebrated wines are available for purchase directly from the vineyard, at local shops, or online, with collection and delivery options available.
During summer, the vineyard opens its shop for tastings and leisurely wanderings—no booking or charge required. Dates are advertised on the vineyard's website and at the gate.
