About Langham Wine Estate
Wine-growers specialising in low-intervention, traditional method sparkling wines crafted from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier grapes. Our 34-hectare vineyard is located on Crawthorne Farm, northeast of Dorchester in rural Dorset.
The journey began in 2009 when Justin Langham planted the first blocks of vines, inspired by his father John’s hobby vineyard at the manor house in nearby Bingham’s Melcombe. Additional plantings followed in 2011 and 2018, with a major expansion of 18 hectares in 2022, including “John’s Vineyard” and “Betty’s Vineyard,” named in honour of Justin’s parents. The final 4 hectares were planted in 2024.
Proudly based in the west of England, we produce some of the region’s most celebrated wines. Our winemaking philosophy takes inspiration from the Grower Champagne (Récoltant Manipulant) movement, favouring minimal intervention and a more oxidative approach to preserve the integrity of our fruit and terroir.
Our vineyard sits on the same porous, belemnitic chalk as Champagne’s revered Côte des Blancs, the legendary white hills responsible for some of the world’s finest sparkling wines. This chalky terroir, combined with our meticulous methods, allows us to craft wines that authentically express the unique character of our land.
Through every step of the process, from vine to bottle, we remain committed to producing exceptional sparkling wines that celebrate the essence of Dorset’s extraordinary terroir.
