About Mereworth Wines
Mereworth, a historic Kent settlement listed in the Domesday Book, has a rich legacy of fruit and hop growing dating back over 500 years. Once a hub of hop production, Brewer’s Hall and its oast house played a vital role in preparing ingredients for England’s finest drinks, with even George Orwell among the seasonal pickers. Today, as hop farming has given way to viticulture, the region’s future is firmly rooted in grape growing.
In 2017, founder William Boscawen revitalised the historic Brewer’s Hall Oast, transforming it into a state-of-the-art winery just a stone’s throw from the vineyard. Positioned on the Greensand Ridge near Wateringbury, the vineyard enjoys optimal conditions for viticulture, including a favourable aspect, elevation, and well-drained soil. First planted in 2016, the vineyard grows Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier—classic Champagne varietals that thrive in Kent’s climate, producing exceptional English Sparkling Wine.
Mereworth Wines are crafted exclusively from estate-grown grapes, allowing complete control over quality and ensuring only the finest fruit, harvested at peak maturity, is used. Employing precision viticulture, the team tailors their approach to each season’s unique conditions, utilising sustainable practises to nurture the vines while protecting the environment.
